LIONS SIGN TRESARRIEU

The Breedon Aggregates Lions have completed a deal to bring the four times French National Speedway Champion, Mathieu Tresarrieu to Beaumont Park. The twenty-five year old has been signed as a temporary replacement for their injured Russian rider Iliya Bondarenko and comes in on a loan agreement from his parent club the Redcar Bears.

The Leicester promoter David Hemsley is pleased that his search is now over and said: “I have been sounding out various riders for over two weeks now but the main stumbling block has been the fact that we ride our home meetings on a Saturday which clashes with commitments of riders who race in Europe at weekends. At this stage of the season there are not that many riders available whose match average fits what we are looking for. Having signed Mathieu means that we no longer have to rely on using rider replacement for Iliya and have a full team now for the first time since 17th April”.

A competent all-round motorcyclist, Mathieu has represented France in the Team Long Track World Final on three occasions and in 2010 his sixteen points helped his country to finish second to Germany in the final. In the World Long Track Individual Championship competition, Leicester’s latest signing has appeared in three of the previous four finals and his highest placing was third in 2007.

Tresarrieu is no stranger to Premier League racing having ridden for Isle of Wight, Reading and Redcar and last year he made eighteen appearances for Peterborough in the Elite League before injury cut short his season.

Leicester’s new signing will make his debut in the cup match against the Glasgow Tigers on Saturday night and has been paired up with the Lions captain Richard Hall.
